Bayern Munich kick off the 2026/27 Bundesliga season on Friday with a home match against VfB Stuttgart. The record champions host last season's fourth-placed side in the standout fixture of the opening matchday.
Pre-season preparations following the summer's World Cup focused on player development, with Tom Bischof and Kim Min-jae praised for a string of solid performances in friendlies. Manager Vincent Kompany's side, however, faces some injury concerns for the opener. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is questionable with a shoulder issue, while Jamal Musiala (illness), Serge Gnabry (adductor), and Lennart Karl (hamstring) are ruled out. In defence, Dayot Upamecano could come into the starting lineup for Kim Min-jae.
Historical Record Favours Bayern
The historical record heavily favours the hosts. Bayern have beaten Stuttgart 88 times in Bundesliga history, more than any other opponent. Star striker Harry Kane also enjoys facing Stuttgart, having scored 14 goals against them. Stuttgart, meanwhile, have managed just one win in the last 16 meetings-a 3-1 victory in May 2024 when the title was already secured by Leverkusen and Bayern heavily rotated. Stuttgart did have the league's second-best attack last term with 71 goals, though that was 51 shy of Bayern's record-shattering total.
Kick-off at the Allianz Arena is set for Friday, August 28th at 8:30 PM CEST. Following the opener, Bayern face a run of important fixtures which can all be viewed on the fixtures page. This season's squad list with all injury updates is available on our squad page.
A win to start the campaign would allow Bayern to immediately lay down a marker in the title race and build on the positive momentum from pre-season. The team will be determined to extend their long run of 33 home games without defeat against Stuttgart.
