Bayern Munich have submitted their squad for the new Champions League season. Manager Vincent Kompany omitted goalkeeper Lennart Karl from the A-list, as reported by Kicker on Thursday.
The team begins the new league phase of the competition on Thursday evening at 21:00. Munich submitted a list of 24 players to UEFA, use one of a possible 25 slots. At least eight of these players must be "locally trained" according to the statutes. A maximum of four of these can be "association-trained", the rest must be "club-trained". Josip Stanisic, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Jamal Musiala meet the criteria for "club-trained".
Who is in the goalkeeper trio?
The goalkeeping trio for the premier competition consists of Manuel Neuer, Jonas Urbig and Sven Ulreich. Lennart Karl is not on the A-list but can be added via the B-list. This list allows for an unlimited number of young, locally trained talents born after 1 January 2005. David Santos is also likely eligible via this route. "Vincent Kompany verzichtete bei der A-Liste für die Champions League auf Lennard Karl," the manager was quoted as saying.

Among the 24 nominated players are the three new signings Nathaniel Brown, Ismael Saibari and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye. The inclusion of Sacha Boey is also a surprise, as he was considered a potential candidate to be left out. Serge Gnabry is back in the European squad after his long-term injury. What does the B-list mean for young talents?
The B-list offers flexibility for young talents. Besides Karl, David Santos could also be added short-term. Two particularly young nominees on the A-list are 17-year-old Maycon Cardozo and 16-year-old Bastian Assomo. Cardozo was discovered via the World-Squad project. Assomo joined from Hertha BSC's youth performance centre in the previous summer. Neither is yet classified as "locally trained" under current UEFA statutes. Their nomination shows the coaching staff's trust in youth.
