Sporting director Max Eberl has reaffirmed Bayern Munich's lofty goals for the new season. In an interview with Die Welt around the Champions League home game against Bodø/Glimt, he emphasised the record champions' aim to win every trophy.
What are the targets for the new season?
Eberl left no doubt about the ambitions. "We want to reach the final and win it if possible. We will do everything for that," he said. Bayern Munich is thus start the next title hunt, which includes the Champions League, the Bundesliga, and the DFB-Pokal. Success in top-level football depends not only on quality but also on a bit of luck in decisive moments. The quality gaps to other top clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester City, or FC Barcelona are very small. The squad has become younger over the last two years and gained speed and creativity through signings like Nathaniel Brown.
How has the squad evolved?
The Bayern Munich squad has undergone a significant transformation. With the departure of experienced players like Leon Goretzka and the acquisition of young talents like Ismael Saibari or Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, the team has become more flexible. The club had been observing Saibari for a longer time in Eindhoven, Eberl stated. After a Champions League match there, coach Vincent Kompany spoke with the player, which accelerated the decision. The strategy is clear: sign players who can help win the major titles while integrating talents from the club's own academy. An overview of the senior squad is available on the team page.
Which transfers were considered?
Bayern Munich is also equipped for major transfers, as the signing of Harry Kane demonstrated. But the club acts with foresight. For instance, Anthony Gordon was not pursued due to high costs. Instead, the alternative Saibari was chosen. Bradley Barcola, whom Eberl knew from his time at Leipzig, was also considered, but the reported transfer fees seemed too high. Another player, Luis Díaz, was signed-a costly but differently dimensioned decision that also excites the fans. The team's upcoming challenges can be found in the fixture list.
What is the contract situation with Kane and Olise?
Contract talks with striker Harry Kane have been ongoing for weeks. Eberl sees no obstacle to an extension. Kane has further developed his personality and leadership qualities in Munich and began his title-winning career here. The club wants to avoid the story becoming an endless topic. For Eberl, Kane is the only real candidate for the Ballon d'Or based on his performances over the past two years. Regarding winger Michael Olise, whose contract runs until 2029 without a release clause, discussions about a possible extension will take place next summer. Olise, who prefers to focus on playing football and was even seen kicking a ball in sock feet in New York, never directly contacted him about a move, Eberl said. His character is a perfect fit for the club. "You have to experience Bayern Munich, you can't prepare for it. You only learn it when you are at the club," Eberl stated. Olise will also wear the number 17 shirt in the coming season.
