Contract Extension
Max Eberl, Bayern Munich’s sporting director, extends his contract until June 2029. The extension follows the board meeting next week, after the club’s leadership confirmed his role.
Role and Responsibilities
Eberl joined Bayern after leaving his position at RB Leipzig. Shortly after his arrival, the club announced the departure of Thomas Tuchel and tasked Eberl with finding a new manager - ultimately appointing Vincent Kompany. Together with sporting director Christoph Freund, Eberl has been working to reduce the wage bill while still signing top talents such as Michael Olise, Luis Diaz, Jonathan Tah, Ismael Saibari, and Nathaniel Brown. His role remains demanding, especially after a burnout period as Mönchengladbach’s sporting director.
Restructuring in the Personnel Department
With the new contract, several responsibilities are being redistributed. Eberl will no longer have full control over the FC Bayern Campus; this task will now be handled by Freund and development director Jochan Sauer. Additionally, he will lose chief scout Nils Schmadtke, who is reportedly being replaced by Manchester United scout Christopher Vivell.
Outlook for the New Season
Eberl commented on the new signings: “We have secured transfers Nene Brown, Ismael Saibari, and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye.” He emphasized that the squad now has a fresh start and is ready to win the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup final against Borussia Dortmund, even though key players such as Lennart Karl, Jamal Musiala, and Serge Gnabry are missing. The focus is on getting the team to work hard again and secure cup success.
