Maycon Cardozo: Bayern Munich's Rising Star Achieving His Dreams
It’s been a quick leap for Bayern Munich youngster Maycon Cardozo. The former Bayern World Squad talent has made his way through the youth ranks, from the U-17s to U-19s and now FC Bayern II. Now, on the back of a strong preseason performance, Cardozo – who has already made his debut for Vincent Kompany in the spring – is on the cusp of the Bayern senior team.
Joining the Senior Squad
“Being at Bayern is a dream come true, I always say that,” Cardozo reflected in comments captured by Brazilian outlet Ge.Global (via @iMiaSanMia). “I’ve always played video games with them. And training with these players, playing together, is a dream come true, but I still have many dreams to fulfill. Training with them is a very good feeling, seeing Olise cutting inside, shooting, Luis Díaz in my position, and Harry Kane, a sensational guy, as a player and as a person, always comes to talk to you and give advice.”
The 17-year-old’s progression has been notable. He has already made his debut for Vincent Kompany, showcasing his potential at the highest level of youth football in Germany. Now, with a strong preseason performance under his belt, Cardozo is ready to take the next step.
Playing Style and Future Prospects
Cardozo prefers to cut inside and shoot, but he can also play through the middle when needed. He plays as a left winger and attacking midfielder, drawing comparisons to Philippe Coutinho. “People often say I’m like Coutinho,” Cardozo explained. “I like to dribble, cut inside and try to finish or provide an assist.”
Interestingly, Cardozo has featured in Bayern’s preseason on the right wing and has shown his versatility by being lethal there as well. There should be rotational minutes up for grabs across the Bayern attack this season, and a patient youngster like Arijon Ibrahimović is expected to be in line for such opportunities.
