Sacha Boey has been released from Bayern Munich team training to facilitate a transfer for the flop before Deadline Day. Sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed the decision on Monday, as reported by Bild.
The French right-back missed the team session and will train individually for the final days before the transfer window closes. Freund explained the situation ahead of the DFB-Pokal match on Wednesday at 20:45 in Osnabrück. "Sacha is fit, but we have decided together with Vinnie (Kompany) and with Sacha that he will train individually for the last one or two days before the transfer deadline, because there are some talks going on right now," said the 49-year-old sporting director.
Why is Boey considered a flop at Bayern?
Sacha Boey moved from Galatasaray Istanbul to the German record champions in January 2024 for 30 million euros. His time in Munich has been marred by injuries and a failure to establish himself. The 25-year-old made only 38 appearances in total, interrupted by four muscle injuries and one stomach-digestive infection. He was already loaned to a Turkish top club in the second half of last season. His future at Bayern now appears to be over. The club is trying to offload the player before the transfer deadline on Tuesday at 20:00.
What is Bayern's current transfer situation?
Bayern themselves remain active on Deadline Day. Alongside efforts to sell players like Boey, they have invested heavily this summer. Ismael Saibari (25) joined for 50 million euros from Eindhoven, Nathaniel Brown (23) for the same fee from Frankfurt. Further new signings like João Palhinha (31, Benfica Lisbon) are intended to strengthen coach Vincent Kompany's squad. At the same time, loan players such as Alexander Nübel (29, Besiktas Istanbul), Daniel Peretz (26, FC Southampton), and Bryan Zaragoza (24, Espanyol Barcelona) have returned. The current squad overview can be found on our squad page.
What does this mean for the defense?
The planned departure of Boey highlights the restructuring of the defense under Kompany. The signing of Nathaniel Brown has already brought in a new right-back. Bayern's defense must prove itself in various competitions in the coming weeks. After the cup match in Osnabrück, the next Bundesliga fixture is already waiting. The complete schedule can be found on our fixtures page. The defense has already conceded eight goals in the opening league games, as shown on the stats page.
The situation surrounding Sacha Boey is a clear signal of Bayern Munich's transfer policy. Misfit signings are being corrected to make room and resources for players who fit Vincent Kompany's system. The final hours of the transfer window on Tuesday will show if a move for the Frenchman materializes. Bayern's DFB-Pokal match in Osnabrück kicks off on Wednesday at 20:45.
