Tom Bischof aims for next step at Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich's Tom Bischof is determined to take on an even bigger role after an impressive debut season with 39 appearances across all competitions. The 21-year-old midfielder, who joined from Hoffenheim in summer 2025, has taken over the iconic No.8 shirt following Leon Goretzka's departure.

How did Bischof's first season go?

Bischof made 18 starts in 2025/26, often playing as a full-back under manager Vincent Kompany. "I learned a lot and developed in different positions", Bischof said. He won the Bundesliga and DFB Cup with the team.

Why is the No.8 shirt significant?

The No.8 is traditionally a key position at Bayern. Bischof waited respectfully until it was clear Aleksandar Pavlović would keep his number. "I used to always want the 10 as a kid, but as a holding midfielder, the 8 fits better", he explained.

What's next for Bischof?

With Joshua Kimmich and Pavlović as the preferred midfield pairing, competition will be fierce. Bischof remains confident: "I want to take the next step. We push each other and make the team stronger."
