Bayern Munich fires chief scout, replaces him with Manchester United recruiter
Bayern Munich plans to restructure its scouting department. Chief scout Jörg Schmadtke could be fired to replace Christopher Vivell from Manchester United. Vivell is currently the head of recruitment at Manchester United and has worked for Chelsea, Hoffenheim, Leipzig and Salzburg in the past.
Schmadtke has been at Bayern Munich since 2024 and was recommended by Max Eberl. The two knew each other from their time at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Schmadtke has completely overhauled the scouting department at Bayern Munich and implemented a live scouting program. Despite this, Bayern Munich has not been able to discover any new surprise talents since Schmadtke's arrival.
Why is this important for Bayern Munich?
The restructuring of the scouting department could be an important step for Bayern Munich to improve their transfer policy. Schmadtke has been criticized for not being able to discover new talents. Vivell, on the other hand, has a good track record at Manchester United.
What comes next?
Bayern Munich must now decide whether to fire Schmadtke and replace him with Vivell as the new chief scout. Vivell has a contract with Manchester United until 2027. It remains to be seen whether Bayern Munich will actually make the switch.
