Bayern Munich goes into hiding: Secret training with massive screen

FC Bayern Munich has gone into hiding. Already at the beginning of the week, work began on the new sight screens on the Säbener Straße construction site. And on Wednesday, one could see for the first time how the whole thing would look at the end: Bayern makes with a massive screen completely tight!

Within just 24 hours, the most important changes were made. Around the new training ground, which is currently being built, nearly 10-meter-high fence posts, which shield the area, were rebuilt in the last few weeks. And now it's also clear what kind of anti-spy sight protection is being installed in front of the fences: A massive XXL pulley system, with which a large, gray sight protection screen is pulled up!

On Tuesday morning, the system was already tested, but without a screen. At the top of the posts, there are numerous small winches, which electrically pull up a long, thick steel rod. On this rod, the screen was attached on Wednesday on one side for the first time. With this, almost nothing is visible from the training. Bayern is tighter than ever before.

Why it matters for Bayern Munich

Trainer Vincent Kompany (40) inspected the construction site personally on Saturday after returning from Asia, looked at the fences together with Sport Director Christoph Freund (49) very closely. The Belgian is used to training completely isolated from fans and other observers from his time in England. More than any other trainer before, he isolates his team, as good as possible.

What comes next?

In the last few years, the secret training has become more and more common: Pep Guardiola (55) introduced the isolation by placing a massive, gray screen around one of the main training grounds, which can be pulled up by the orderlies. Problem: In icy temperatures or wind, the thing often doesn't work. Under Julian Nagelsmann (39), the second main training ground also became a secret training ground: This time with retractable, gray rollers. There were always technical problems with those too.

Now the pulley system with the pull-up screen, which is meant to keep spies, fans, and the press away - and this time also almost the entire view of the entire Bayern grounds - is in place. Perhaps professional – but far from fan-friendly...
