Bayern Munich has taken a historic step by selling the final 5% stake in Bayern München AG to heating technology specialist Viessmann for €250 million. This exhausts the 30% limit under the 50+1 rule. The deal marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new partnership.
What does this mean for Bayern Munich?
With this sale, Bayern Munich has sold the maximum allowed stake to an external company. Adidas, Audi and Allianz each hold 8.33%, while Viessmann now takes the remaining 5%. The club retains 70% of the shares and remains the majority shareholder.
Why Viessmann?
The partnership between Bayern and Viessmann dates back to 2018, when the company became a regional partner in China. Since then, the collaboration has steadily expanded, culminating in Viessmann's promotion to a main partner. Max Viessmann, CEO of the Viessmann Group, already sits on the club's supervisory board.
What's next?
The sale not only provides financial resources for the club but also establishes a strategic partnership. Viessmann will now be ranked alongside Telekom, Adidas, Audi and Allianz. Whether further investments will follow remains to be seen.
