Jamal Musiala's second collapse is a disaster for Bayern Munich
The 23-year-old, Jamal Musiala, has spoken out on Instagram and explained that he suffers from a neurological dysfunction. This illness is not just a medical problem, but also a challenge for Bayern Munich.
Musiala had already collapsed in a test match against Leipzig at the weekend. The incident was shocking, and the fans were worried. But now it has happened, what many feared: Musiala has collapsed again, this time in a pre-season match against Heidenheim.
The pictures are similar, both times Musiala had to leave the field, both times the impressions were alarming and brought back memories. One thought of the Dane Christian Eriksen, who collapsed in 2021 at the EM due to heart problems. Or Sergio Agüero, who has ended his career due to heart rhythm disorders.
Musiala was long injured
Musiala had long been struggling with the consequences of a severe injury he had sustained in a duel with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Gradually, he came back into shape, played in the World Cup, but was not the same player as before the injury.
Only a little later, Musiala himself explained what had happened. The explanation sounded reassuring at first. Because it was not the heart-circulatory system that failed due to an undetected myocarditis. In the case of Musiala, the cause is of a neurological nature.
Is there no danger for Musiala?
Musiala himself referred to the fact that there was no further health risk; he was medically in the best treatment. These words sounded reassuring at first glance, but they are not. Because the player cannot know when these episodes occur, if they, as he formulated it, are currently part of his daily life, even if the symptoms, as Kleinschnitz said, can be treated well.
Already with Kimmich, the Bayern did not make a good figure
The next day, Uli Hoeness, the honorary president of FC Bayern, who is still a member of the supervisory board, spoke out. In an interview with RTL, he provided some details that enriched the picture, including the fact that the episodes had been occurring for some time: «We have been informed about the problems for a long time. Against Leipzig, it happened for the first time for everyone to see. That it happened four days later again, has shaken me off my chair.»
The question that arises is where the support of the club has been. That the Bayern are not always well-advised in such delicate matters was shown by the handling of Joshua Kimmich, who was the victim of a public witch hunt because he did not get vaccinated against Covid-19.
Jamal Musiala is currently sidelined
Currently, Jamal Musiala is sidelined. The 23-year-old will focus on his recovery and hopes to be back on the pitch soon.
