Harry Kane, Vincent Kompany, and Giulia Gwinn were each named Germany's Footballer, Coach, and Female Footballer of the Year. The awards underscore Bayern Munich's dominance in German football.
Kane as Footballer of the Year
Kane decisively outperformed his teammate Michael Olise in the Footballer of the Year poll. The Englishman received 272 votes, Olise came in with 203. Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav finished third with 61 votes. This is Kane's first Footballer of the Year award in Germany. He had said last Wednesday that it was the best season of his career, as he was also awarded the Golden Shoe for Europe's top scorer for the second time in his career. In his speech, former Bayern player Luca Toni said Kane deserves to win the Ballon d'Or for the world's best footballer.
Kompany as Coach of the Year
In the coach poll, Kompany received 314 votes, clearly ahead of last year's winner Julian Schuster and Sebastian Hoeneß of VfB Stuttgart. Schuster personally congratulated Kompany: "Dear Vincent, congratulations on being named Coach of the Year - you truly deserve it." Kompany wins the Coach of the Year title for the first time. Under the Belgian, Bayern secured the double last season and also fought for a Champions League final spot.
Gwinn as Female Footballer of the Year
In women's football, the 27-year-old Gwinn shared first place last year with goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger; this year she won outright. The defender from Bayern's double-winning side collected 106 votes, just ahead of teammate Klara Bühl with 94. Third place went to Jule Brand with 82 votes from Olympique Lyon.
The two Bayern players will receive their awards on Friday before the Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena.
