Bayern Munich II won the first city derby against TSV 1860 in five years with a 4-2 victory at the Grünwalder Stadion. The Regionalliga spectacle in front of 15,000 spectators was, however, marred by significant disturbances and a massive police presence.
The FC Bayern amateurs took the lead through goals from Anton Heinz in the 12th and 40th minutes, Tim Binder (23rd), and Artur Degraf (75th). For 1860, Cristian Leone (28th) and Emre Erdogan (51st) scored. A goal from Noah Codjo-Evora was disallowed for offside. Coach Dante experienced his first derby on the sidelines and even saw a red card in the heated match.
Massive Police Deployment and Arrests
Authorities had classified the match as high-risk in advance and deployed 300 officers. During the fan marches in the morning, where 1860 supporters loudly chanted "hate," reinforcements had to be requested. A total of 400 police officers, including riot police and mounted units, were deployed. "Unfortunately, a bit of pyrotechnics was already present," said police spokesperson Damian Kania. Six officers suffered minor acoustic trauma from fireworks thrown by 1860 fans before kickoff.
In the second half, Bayern fans interrupted the match with their own pyro displays and unveiled a banner reading 'We are Munich’s Dynamite'. After the match, four fans were arrested, two from each club. Two individuals received stadium bans and were held in custody for the duration of the match. Police announced they would review video footage in the coming days to identify further offenders.
History of the Rivalry
The tensions date back further. In May, 1860 fans had displayed an insulting banner during FC Bayern's championship celebration at Marienplatz, prompting FC Bayern AG to file a criminal complaint. One week before the derby, four masked Bayern fans were observed spraying a bridge and fleeing. Police used a drone and searched an apartment.
Sportingly, the win was an important success for the record champion's second team, which was in a mid-table position with 16 points from 12 games before the matchday. They had previously gone five league games unbeaten. TSV 1860, who were third with 24 points from 13 games before the match, were without their injured striker Tunay Deniz. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich's current first team is preparing for the important Champions League match against Arsenal on Wednesday, after defeating RB Leipzig 6-1 last weekend. The recent form of the professionals, with one win, two draws, and two defeats in their last five games, shows that the will to win is also present among the amateurs.
Police detained around 100 Bayern fans without tickets outside the stadium, who had to remain there for the entire match. Investigations into the incidents are ongoing.

The Bavarian Football Association initiated proceedings against FC Bayern's amateurs on Monday. The BFV charged the pyro offences committed by Bayern fans during the derby. A points deduction for Bayern II is considered likely by the association. The club has been asked to submit a statement. The Bayern ultras ignited flares multiple times in the second half. Bayern II already has a prior record, having been deducted four points in three previous cases. The first team, meanwhile, prepares for the Champions League match against Arsenal on 21 October.
