Holger Seitz, the former coach of Bayern Munich's reserve team, has been appointed head coach of SpVgg Unterhaching. The 51-year-old returns to the Regionalliga Bayern and will soon face his direct successor at Bayern, Dante.

Seitz spent a total of eleven years working for Bayern Munich. His greatest achievement was guiding the second team from the Regionalliga to the 3. Liga in 2019. He left the club after the 2022/23 season. His successor was former Bayern star Dante, who won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League treble with the club in 2013. The 42-year-old has been in charge of the second team since the start of this season.

Direct Duel on 9 October

The first meeting between the two coaches is already scheduled. On 9 October, Bayern II will host Holger Seitz's team. The league table promises an intriguing match: Unterhaching are in sixth place, while the Bayern reserves sit 15th after eight matchdays. Dante gave an initial assessment of the season so far. He said the team had already improved, for example in their high and aggressive pressing, in winning duels and in their patience in possession. His team has collected eight points from eight games so far.

Personnel Issues at Bayern II

The coach's work is hampered by several absences. Striker Tim Binder, 19, is out with a thigh muscle tear. His teammate Guido della Rovere, also 19, has a hand injury. The 17-year-old talent Maycon Cardozo is expected to join the squad later. Dante himself underwent shoulder surgery at the end of August and will be sidelined for three to four months. Nevertheless, he is optimistic about his young forwards. He said Tim and Maycon had recently done superbly with the first team and that they knew the qualities of Guido.

While the second team prepares for the Regionalliga clash, the first team continues its positive run. Bayern Munich's last match was a 2-1 win at SV Elversberg, with goals from Lennart Karl and Harry Kane. Their form over the last five competitive games reads two wins, one draw and two defeats (WLDWL). The first team's next fixture is at home to Union Berlin on Friday, 18 September.
